Poulet de Bresse
These white chickens with their redbreasts were the first live animals ever to obtain a protected designation of origin (AOC) certification. Produced by a small handful of farmers from the Bresse region in Eastern France, the birds are fed on a locally grown grain mix and are actively encouraged to forage for worms and insects for typically about four months. They are widely reputed to be the best-eating chicken in the world.
