Duke of Berkshire Pork

Duke of Berkshire Pork is butchered from the rare-breed ‘Berkshire’ pigs, descended from Queen Victoria’s own prized boar named ‘Ace of Spades’. The meat is succulent and more flavourful than standard pork with a stronger piggy flavour, the way pork used to taste!

The reputation of this breed extends the world over and is highly prized in Japan as ‘Kurobuta’. The unique taste and meat quality are the results of the very special genetic properties of the Berkshire breed which yield a finer and more delicate muscular structure and a waxier texture to the fat cells. With the taste and sensation of thick, crisp Pork crackling combined with this deliciously juicy pork meat. After cutting there is very little loss of juices from the meat, a fact that is much appreciated by chefs around the world.

Berkshire pigs eat a lot more than most other breeds of pigs and they are genetically predisposed to developing more fat within the meat. Furthermore, the sows give birth to only five of six piglets, half as many as most breeds. These two facts mean that a huge investment is made by breeders of Berkshire pigs and this investment is protected by ensuring that all the pork produced is of the very highest quality.
